Top 5 Beaches For Portraits in San Diego

Want to know my opinion on what the top 5 best beaches for portraits in San Diego? Look no further because I have chosen what I think are San Diego’s best beaches for family or senior photo sessions! I adore beach photography and I love taking my clients to the beach for their family photos whether it be extended family, their high school senior or just their own little family unit!

The beach is beautiful year round and always provides an amazing backdrop for any photo session. I love taking photos at sunrise or sunset for the best lighting.  Different beaches provide just a bit of a different variation of backdrops and I hope you’ll see below what you are more drawn to for your own family or senior photos.

The first beach on my favorites list is Carlsbad Beach. My favorite spot in Carlsbad is just a bit south of Tamarack Beach know as the warm water jetties area.  I love the look of the cliffs and the rocks and also it’s not quite as highly populated during those peak busy times of summer. The second San Diego Beach on my favorites list for San Diego Family Photography is La Jolla Beach. I love to do senior portraits or family photography over at a beach in La Jolla called Windansea Beach.  This beach is smaller than most other beach areas, but is stunningly beautiful with cliffs and little nooks and crannies for the best beach photos.  Check out this fun family session I photographed at Windansea!

The third beach on my list of top beaches for senior portraits or family photography in San Diego is Coronado Beach. As a San Diego Beach Photographer, I love doing portrait sessions out in front of the Hotel Del Coronado.  The rocks there provide a beautiful background and the beach and sand there are just super expansive and stunning. The fourth beach on my list of Top 5 San Diego Beaches for Portraits is Pacific Beach.  I love to shoot right underneath or near Crystal Pier which provides a really cool and unique backdrop for beach photos. The quaint looking pier gives a lot of great spots underneath to get that rustic wood feel in your photos. The couple below also had family photos done and you can check out their blog post HERE!

For the last beach on my list for Family Photography or Senior Portraits in San Diego, I’m going to cheat because I couldn’t narrow down just one more. As I said earlier, you really can’t go wrong with any of San Diego’s amazing beaches!

Mission Beach is always a great spot for photos AND you’re nice and close to Belmont Park!  The best friends session below was SO much fun and you should go check out the blog post about it. I love working with teenagers and it was so fun to capture friend’s love for each other.

This location below is at Del Mar beach! But really, there are SO many more fantastic beaches along San Diego’s beautiful coastline. From Torrey Pines to Encinitas to Cardiff, you can’t go wrong.
