featured! come take a look!
I fell in love with this blog when I came across it last year. I always thought it would be amazing to be one of the people featured on it. And today I am!!!! I am so excited and giddy about it, you would think I won the lottery lol! Marsha is the person behind The Savvy Photographer blog and she is so awesome at making it a fun, fresh, and need-to-have-on-rss-feed type blog. Make sure to get a cup of coffee and put your feet up when you go to read, because you are sure to be there for awhile!
It was a hugely positive thing for me to wake up to after being devastated last night to find some of my pictures had been stolen from me by a former client and had the watermark removed. She had also scanned two of my prints and uploaded them to her flickr and had entered them in a contest on the Pioneer Woman’s blog and was a finalist. Ree, the owner of PW, took her entry down immediately after getting my email. However, it still was a huge shock to me and made me sad to realize that people don’t see how wrong it is to do something like this. Please do not steal my blog images if you do not have permission. Please do not remove my watermark from my images or edit them with weird, funky sun flare overlays. And please, please do not scan my pictures. . .it is illegal! This business is my livelihood and it makes me sad that people don’t respect that. Ok, had to get that out!
Gotta put a pic, otherwise it looks bare right? Here’s a pic to make you smile. 🙂
xoxo
Kristin
Congrats Kristin! Hard to believe you have only been doing this a year. When I started following your work, I fell in love with your beach photography. It’s been very inspiring for me to see your talent. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Hi Kristin! Great feature of you on Savvy Photographer! Can’t wait for part 2 tomorrow. And I totally sympathize with you on people stealing images and doing stupid things. My wonderful “friend” scanned the images she purchased from me and added them to facebook, when I had already added the watermarked images to FB. They were immediately removed once I informed her that she didn’t purchase the CD, therefore, I still owned the rights. Thanks for sticking up for our industry. Hugs to you!

Hi, Kristin-visiting from Savvy Photographer! Your work is absolutely beautiful! How is it that you have only been in business a year? Your work is seasoned, and stunning! So when you say you began with taking pictures of your kids, how did you get to where you are now? Classes? Books? I can only dream of taking photos half as beautiful as yours-any tips?

Thank you so much for the kind words everyone! I started my actual business just a little over a year ago. But I bought my first DSLR 3 years ago and did some portfolio building during that time. I practiced and learned for 2 years first. I learned a lot just by reading all I could read online and shooting all.the.time. It was what I ate, drank, and dreamed about. Kristin, I think my advice would just be to find a good photography forum and post images for critique. Also, flickr was a huge source of inspiration for me. 🙂 Shoot anything and everything all day long! Good luck to you!
Tira, so sorry that happened to you!!! Hugs to you too!

Congrats on being featured! Sorry to hear someone stole your pictures! I’m always shocked by how readily people will do that, I would be so upset by something like that as well, even only as a hobby photographer!
