San Diego Professional Photographer | 26 on Fridays | Week 3

So, I failed miserably at this project (cue sad music). My final product was much too embarrassing to post, so instead I am just posting a still-frame of the image. The theme this week was “The People Who Keep You Sane” and the technique we were working on is Cinematography. Click here for some amazing examples of cinemagraphs. My first thought was to create a cinematographic image with my friends as they are a huge element in my life for keeping me sane. But then I felt bad for excluding anyone in particular because I just love them all so much. Then I thought about using my awesome barista peeps at Starbucks because they REALLY keep me sane pretty much every day. But that proved to be too difficult. So instead, you get the Starbucks chick on the cup. Let’s just say she stands for all of those awesome Starbucks people who make my day. My husband went to get me a coffee one morning and my favorite Starbucks barista gal recognized him and wrote a lovely message on my cup. I know it’s sad, but it makes me oh so happy! I’ve decided life is too short to give up on the little things that bring happiness and joy to my life. And if an iced coffee can do that, then I’m ALL for it!

The theme for our 26 Week Project this week was “Let’s Get Close”. I found some amazing light through our orange trees and captured this magical moment between my oldest and youngest. Even though my kids fight all.of.the.time, it’s moments like this that warm my heart and make me realize that they might love each other just a little bit.

I am normally very drawn to color and the colors of the sunset in this picture are amazing. However, the clothes they both were wearing from the day clashed big time and really took away from the magic of the image. . . hence, a black and white. Don’t get me wrong, I love a great black and white image, I just hate to miss out on the those fabulous, warm sunset tones.:)

San Diego Photographer | 26 on Fridays | Week 1

As photographers, we are always looking for ways to challenge ourselves. This year I am taking on an exciting new challenge, a 26 week project. It is similar to the 52 week project most of you are familiar with, except this year we are working on techniques along with our themes. Now if you know me at all personally or just from reading my blog, you’ll know I’m terrible at following through with projects. Once I heard this one was only twice a month, I thought it would be attainable. I have to say, even though I didn’t continue my 2011 project all year long, I still have a ton of pictures that I am so thankful I took as a result of it!

Our themes for our 26 week project will be more thought provoking, so it will be fun to see the different interpretations. I am working along with 11 other AMAZING photographers (who will hold me accountable) from the Bloom Forum (see below this post about it!). When I say amazing, I don’t just say that lightly. . .they really are all so talented. These ladies will be challenging me as the year goes on and I am really looking forward to pushing myself to think outside of the box. Each month we will have a different technique we are working on, and each week we will have a new theme.

For the month of January, our technique is unique lighting and our theme is “view from up here”. After you see my picture, be sure to continue clicking through the different photographers links so you can see the complete circle. Don’t forget to come back in 2 weeks to see our next theme, you don’t want to miss it!

Here is a view of the amazingly gorgeous island of St. Lucia. I was went there a couple of months ago with a group of friends and took this as we were leaving the island. I’ll normally try and take a new photo for the project, but this image popped right in my head when I saw the theme “view from up here”. It fit the theme much to perfectly not to use it!:)

Also, I mentioned the Bloom Forum up above and just want to give a quick shout-out to go check them out. The site is small in an intimate way, personable, and FULL of amazing talent. The owners are super sweet and generous and I am thrilled to be on their mini-workshop list for this year. You can click the logo below to see what they are all about!:)

Saying Good-bye to 2011!!!

2011 was an AMAZING year! I really could not have asked for anything better. I met so many awesome people through my business and while I didn’t get a chance to blog them every single session, I sincerely appreciate each and every client of mine. I am so thankful to all of you who chose me to capture your family this past year. I had so much fun seeing babies, who I photographed as newborns, grow up or families that I hadn’t seen for a year change so much! I am so thankful for all of my clients who value what I do and who have been so easy to work with. YOU all make this job so enjoyable and fun for me! So, thank you from the bottom of my heart to each and every one of you!!!

Here’s a taste of most of the sessions I did in 2011! I may have left out a few, but just take a look at all of the beauty I was so privileged to capture behind my lens this past year. I can’t wait to see what 2012 has in store! Happy New Year everyone!

P.S. I had a good giggle that there is only one black and white image in the whole series. . .I think I must be drawn to color??;)

Happy Monday everyone!! Christmas is almost here already and I have not started shopping yet. . .I also have not done my Christmas cards yet. So I’m a little behind in this situation, but I’m sure it will all come together at the end, right??? Cross your fingers for me!

You may recognize this beautiful family from prior years on my blog. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing them a few times now and it’s been awesome to watch their family grow and to be able to photograph their adorable kiddos. I really fell in love with so many images from their session so I had a hard time narrowing down the ones I wanted to show.:)I have a lot of beautiful families to show off, so I’ll hopefully get a chance to do that this week or next!
