I made a decision last year to give up a job that I had been doing online for quite a long time. There were many reasons for doing this and at the time I was so stressed about the decision. Looking back, I really see how God was involved in that decision from the get-go. I saw that everything does happen for a reason even when you don’t understand it at the time, and now I feel like the last 6 months has given me my sanity back. I used to spend so much time on the computer that I felt this weird pull to it. Granted, I was working and making money by being on it, but I felt like my life had become sucked into that computer screen. My kids hated it, my husband hated it, and I was starting to hate the person I was becoming being consumed by being stuck in front of that computer screen all of the time. I just felt super anxious and stressed and it was not good for me at all. I thought just because I had a great opportunity in front of me that I needed to take it. I now realize how much happier I am and how much happier my family is that I am “present”. I still am running my photography business and staying busy with that, which I feel SO incredibly blessed by. The month of January was filled with the most amazing clients who truly made me realize how lucky I am to have this business. But I’ve really taken a step back from the online/social networking/computer world. I know I need to blog my sessions once in awhile as it’s always good to get my fresh work out there for clients to see. But I’m finding a great balance and I’ve been able to really get involved more in my kids’ school/activities. I have an almost 4-year-old that I’ve been able to hang out with A LOT more instead of ignore for hours a day. God really has taught me a lot about what matters this past year. Many events, some tragic, have taken place that have showed me how important it is to be present in my life and to really cultivate my relationships with my kids, my husband, and my friends. Overall, 2012 has already been an amazing year just a little over one month into it and I look forward to seeing what the rest of the year brings. Sappy. . .yes? But I had to share it.

With that, I give you a taste of the last sessions I’ve had. . .

Meet the scrumptiously, loveable Leo. . .

Up next is the deliciously sweet Tala. . .

The next two heart-breakers were from an awesome family session that I hope to show more of soon. I do have one outtake to share though that just cracks me up!

Next up is the adorably, smooshy Asher. . .

And the next two are just a couple of my favs from back in December. The little guy below belongs to one of my best friends from High School.

LOVED this family session. . .hope to share more from this one some day too.

She had the most amazing blue eyes and the most adorable little smile. I’ve had my fair share of photographing two-year-old kiddos lately and boy is it a work-out! I absolutely adore photographing that age because of their sweet smiles and laughs that I have to be quick to capture or it’s just a big blur of energy flying by. Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

I love showing off my clients and I feel bad I haven’t been doing much of that lately. Things have been so crazy and blogging has just had to be pushed to the back of the priority list, especially around the holiday time! But I do want to show a bunch of images from recent sessions. I am still missing some sessions (sorry to those of you I’m missing!) but I promise to try and get to them soon!!! For now, enjoy the beautiful people I am so lucky to get to photograph!

First up, Miss Tanya and her fabulous son, Jimmy. They flew out here from Missouri for a little mother/son bonding time and we had a blast running around at the beach together.

Next up is little Ava who was mere 4 days new at our session. . . such a sweet pea!

Then I had the pleasure of photographing this adorable family! The chunk on 4 month old Jack was so adorable and reminded me a ton of my boys at that age. And his 19 month old brother was a total ham and such a little poser!

You may recognize these two cuties from their session last fall! They have grown a crazy amount and kept me on my toes! I loved seeing their little personalities really shine and their mom is the perfect mom for twins (Also, super gorgeous to boot!). <3

Little 6 month old Isabella was not into me at first. . .in fact, she screamed whenever I would look at her!! But as you can see, after awhile she sure gave me some adorable smiles. Such a little cutie!

More to come soon!!!

I know it’s been a long time since I’ve share some pics of them, but you know how life gets. I’ve been dealing with a lot of stress this last couple of weeks and had to take a step back, breathe, and realize that my problems are so small compared to what other people go through on a daily basis. It’s okay to be stressed and to have a bad day, but at the end of that bad day, I’ve realized it’s important for me to take a look at my life as a whole and see just how really blessed I am. I have a husband who adores me, three healthy, rambunctious, beautiful children, friends who would go to the end of the earth for me and back, and a job that most people dream of having. The things that sometimes eat me up inside are things that can be worked out with a little perspective and prayer. Sometimes you just have to let go and let God.

So without further adieu, my three little monkeys jumping on the bed. No one fell off and bonked their head, thank goodness (enter courtesy giggle here). There aren’t many of my middle child because he was off playing and only came in at the very end to hang out with us. I hope these bring a smile to your face like they do to mine.

Our family has been blessed beyond measure with some amazing friendships. It really makes life so much more enjoyable when you can share it with those people. The family below has been a huge part of our life over the years and they mean the world to us. We’ve seen each others kids grow up and we’ve made some really amazing memories together. I know we’ll have many more years of fun memories to make and I am SO very thankful for that!

So awhile back, I did a post about things that made my day and things that broke my day here. I thought it might be fun to do that again and I had high hopes of doing it every week, but alas, I have issues with staying on any kind of schedule or regimen (cough. . .exercise. . .cough. . .eating healthy. . .cough. . .personal picture projects). It’s how I roll. Today I’m doing it for the whole week instead of just things for the day because let’s face it, my days aren’t always all that interesting.

Things that made my week:
1. Coffee-time with Friends. Oh how enjoyable it is to sit for hours on end chatting about anything and everything. Sometimes I wish I could go back to the era where the women hung out all day and cooked and knit. Only, I would switch the cooking and knitting to eating delicious food that is terrible for you and singing karaoke on the Wii.
2. My new Camelbak Water Bottle. I hate drinking water, but this bottle makes it a little less terrible. The bite valve is kind of like chewing gum and makes you keep drinking water because you can’t stop biting it. Or maybe that’s just me.
3. The cleaning lady came this week. Nuff said.
4. Mongolian Grill food. This stuff is SOOOOOOO good and so fresh. Oh yea, and there is a Starbucks right next door. Now that is smart marketing for freaks like me can’t get enough beef and coffee.
5. Finally finding the culprit of the odd-smelling object in the car. It was a sippy cup of old milk lodged under the back seat. Being a mom is super glamorous!

Things that broke my week:
1. Salon de Kristin Rachelle. So I thought it would be an awesome idea to dye my own hair this week. I know for most people, going to the salon is like a mini-vacation. But for me, it’s the biggest pain in my butt there ever was. So I venture into Sally’s where there are a couple of really old ladies working who know NOTHING about hair dye. Oooooooook, alrighty then. I blindly choose some high volume developer and some ash blonde hair dye to keep the brassiness at bay. Because being super blonde is super awesome. Only it didn’t turn super blonde, it turned super orange. I decided to go and get a blonde highlighting kit from Walmart and some toner in an attempt to de-orange. I did get a lot less orange but I also got a lot more blonde. I am not really looking forward to my roots growing in. You’d think I would have learned my lesson when I tried this a bunch of times in my early 20′s.
2. My three-year-old’s fabulous whining stage. How can one little dude whine so much in a day? Doesn’t he realize when my face is contorted into something that resembles a freakish monster and turning a deep dark shade of crimson at the same time, that he may want to stop to save his life?
3. Realizing there were roller skates left behind my car after I ran them over. May they rest in peace.

Because no post is good without a picture, here is one of the two older kids getting along. I have to document these moments just so my feeble mind can remember that they actually do love each other once in awhile.

Have a great weekend everyone!

So, I thought I’d introduce her. . . .only, she won’t let me take her picture. Only, she doesn’t realize I did snap one of her dancing with some balloons. That’s what she gets for not letting me take her picture.

Her name is Lisa. It’s a good name, one of my other very best friends is named Lisa. This Lisa and I so happen to share the same birthday. We kind of “get” each other and our personalities clicked right away. She’s quirky, she’s fun, she sings, she dances, she drinks coffee. . .she’s pretty much me. Except for her creativity runs in a whole different direction then mine. While she has some mad skillz behind the lens (she’s currently a hobbyist), it doesn’t stop there. She sews, quilts, knits, bakes, designs, creates, etc, etc, etc. She’s kind of a freak of nature. But a good one. Even if I have to enlist her services to cut hearts out that don’t look like my three year old did it. She did all of my branding for my Photoshop Actions and is helping me behind the scenes with some of my business tasks which is AWESOME and takes some stress off of me. My husband thanks her for that.

Enter Lisa’s niece.

My mission was to take two-year-old pictures of the birthday girl and some with her three cousins for grandma and grandpa. Pictures of the birthday girl were tough, but we managed some great ones of her. However, pictures of her with her cousins failed miserably lol. That’s ok, next time!!! With two-year-old’s, you take what you get! I did manage a few great ones of Lisa’s girls though so I’ll show you those first and then you can see Miss D’s sweet face!

Later balloons!
I challenged myself to shoot in light that was a little trickier and not as close to sunset as I normally do and while it was a challenge, I loved the results. Plus the model is pretty good, don’t you think???? Happy Friday everyone, have an awesome weekend!

Here are my little things so far this week!

The little things that made my day:

1. Little notes and comments from friends and strangers saying the nicest things. . .I think it’s amazing that people will go out of their day to email me or comment and say something that makes me smile from ear to ear! Thank you!
2. My 3 year old falling asleep on my lap at bedtime instead of in his bed. I held him for a long time after because I know it won’t be long until this won’t happen anymore. <3
3. My kids playing for about an hour last night with NO fights or injuries and a lot of laughs instead. Booyah!
4. Starbucks Iced Coffee. I know, I know, I overplay it. But it makes me happy and that in turn, makes my family happy. It’s a win-win situation.
5. Facetime. I never knew how much I could laugh from making funny faces and burping with a good friend of mine all the way over in Vermont. Even her 7 year old and my 7 year old had a good ole time meeting each other and burping in each-others faces. (What, that’s not normal?)

The little things that broke my day:

1. McDonald’s Shamrock Shake. I was so excited to try one of these, because I LOVE Mint, but it was an epic McFail. I’m not going to lie, it tasted like a mixture of cleaning solution and mint ice cream gone bad. Sad times for me.
2. Doing kettle-bells and pulling a back muscle. . .what am I like 80 years old now? My husband is an AVID cross-fitter and I try and do it twice a week b.c I know he loves that I am doing something he loves. Aren’t I sweet? (His own X-fit blog can be found HERE).
3. Finding a note that my 7 year old wrote with the names of her “crushes”. Say what? I’ve prayed every day she wouldn’t be boy-crazy like me. . .looks like I will get a taste of the medicine I made my mom and dad drink for years. Sweet. (I blame the boy who tried to kiss me inside the tires at school in 1st grade. . .you know who you are ADAM)
4. TMJ . What do you mean I can’t chew gum? And seriously, did I really have to inherit ALL of my families problems?

What little things made or broke your day this week?

xoxo,

Kristin

P.S. My baby celebrated his 3rd birthday last week, here’s one pic from our little session together. I’ll be sure to share more soon!
